Two Years On

It is about two years since this site first came online—today's date is 11th March 2007 and the domain was registered on the 29th March 2005, but the site existed on Geocities for a few weeks before being moved here. This time last year, I reflected on the first year of the site. I think it is time to reflect again. My first three reflections are fairly light hearted (but still have a serious message) so if you want the important stuff, skip ahead to Finding Fellowship.

Interesting Assumptions

Every few months I go through the email I have received, in case there is a point that I missed, or some issue that I ought to address. I noticed a pattern in the way people address me. Not everyone who emails makes assumptions about who I am, but everyone who has made assumptions has assumed that I am a gay man. I don't know why this is. I don't think it is mentioned anywhere on the site. Perhaps people can't cope with the idea that I am a straight man, or even a woman. Maybe its because most of the issues on this site deal directly with male same-sex relationships, but that's because most of the relevant verses in the Bible deal with male same-sex relationships. Please email me if you think I might be something else....

Read the Scriptural Index

Onto a more serious point now. This site has a Scriptural index: a list of all the Biblical passages discussed, with links to the pages where they are quoted. Amazingly, I still get a steady trickle of emails that say thing like "Read Romans 1!" and nothing else. I've read Romans 1 (and 1 Corinthians 6, and Leviticus 18, and all the other passages, and all of the rest of the Bible actually). You don't have to take my word for it. This site has pages where I explain what I think these passages teach, all conveniently linked from the scriptural index. Rather than sending me a one-line email, write to me to tell me why you think I am wrong. Just telling me to read a verse is a waste of time: I probably know it by heart already.

The Challenge of the Challenges

From August to December 2006 I published 5 challenges: simple questions about specific points I make. I wanted people to email me their responses to those points. So far I have had one—just one—response. I am actually disappointed by this. Lots of Christadelphians have told me I am wrong and I am distorting the Scripture—but only one of them has actually addressed what I say.I thought at first that the contact form was broken, but it seems to be working. Then I thought that nobody was reading the site, but the site logs say otherwise. So here is the challenge of the challenges: why have I had only one response? Suggested answers can be sent via the contact form. It can't be that the finest minds in Conservative Christadelphia can't refute my arguments, can it? ;-)

Finding Fellowship

On a positive note, I have heard from lots of Christadelphians who agree with my position, including one or two internationally-renowned brothers. I have heard from several gay Christadelphians and gay ex-Christadelphians who retain their faith. A few have allowed me to publish their stories. During the long, lonely nights these emails have encouraged me, as I hope this website has encouraged other people. If you agree with this site, if you support it, why not link to it from your personal webpage or blog? Or why not set up your own Gay Christadelphian website? Let the Christadelphian world know you exist, even if you have to do it anonymously. This is not something you should do lightly, or casually, but it may be something to give your prayerful consideration to.

Guest Authors

Most of this site is written by me. I'd like to get more people involved. Would you like to contribute an article or other content to this site? You can do it as anonymously as you wish. Contact me and let me hear your proposals. Articles, studies, even exhortations, of any length are welcome, as long as they are relevant to the site.
